Day Sixteen: The Joy of My Salvation

Psalm 51:12,

Restore to me the joy of my salvation…

This is an easy segue from talking about the holiness of God. Let’s continue on with how this understanding should affect our lives as believers and worshippers. Referring back to yesterday’s reading of Isaiah 6 we see the response of Isaiah regarding this dramatic event he just witnessed. Isaiah says, ““Woe to me!” I cried. “I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”” Isaiah was ruined being in the presence of God. A sinful and unholy man.

With our lips we confess the desires of our heart because the lips are the window of the heart. Luke 6:45 says that out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks and so our lips reveal our sin. Isaiah was wrecked by his sin and that of his nation, Israel. We see in the rest of this passage that God wanted the affections of his people. To turn away from their selfish desires (sin) and pursue the holiness of God. Here comes the Good News. Being on this side of the cross and knowing what God has done for us to atone us from our sins through the blood and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we can now use our lips to confess that Jesus is Lord (Romans 10:9-10). Again, these lips reveal the true intentions of our heart in the fact that we believe Christ died for our sins and God raised Him from the dead. This is His redemptive work!

Do you remember the day you were wrecked by your sin and undone by the work of Christ on the cross? I do. I was 13 years old and sat at a table where my uncle revealed to me the weight of my sin, the holiness of God, and the cost He paid to allow me to fellowship with HIM. This changed my way of worship. It changed my life’s destiny. It brought to me the joy of my salvation. David completely understood this and explained it so well in Psalm 51.

Sometimes it’s important for me, and a great reminder, to look back at this redeeming work in my life and thank Christ for what He has done. This expression is worship.
